PATH is a global nonprofit dedicated to achieving health equity. With more than 40 years of experience forging multisector partnerships and with expertise in science, economics, technology, advocacy, and dozens of other specialties, PATH develops and scales up innovative solutions to the world’s most pressing heath challenges.

PATH Kenya is a local entity that has been working in the country since 1990. PATH Kenya has been a trusted partner to the Kenyan government, the private sector, nongovernmental organizations, and communities, supporting the country’s rise as a health leader in East Africa and beyond. PATH in Kenya works to enhance health system capacity and resilience by providing technical expertise with deep local experience, accelerating progress through advocacy and policy, and using human-centered design to maximize impact.

PATH’s Primary Health Care program is comprised of five teams: Health Systems, HIV/TB/Viral hepatitis, Integrated Maternal and Child Health and Development, Noncommunicable Diseases, and Sexual and Reproductive Health. Our Integrated Maternal and Child Health and Development (IMCHD) team is a global leader in advocating for and in implementing approaches along the continuum of care and integration of health systems to optimize impact.

The PATH Kenya and IMCHD teams have pioneered advances in optimizing care for small and sick newborns, with focus on the linkage between nutrition and newborn care. Although human milk is the recommended feeding option for these vulnerable newborns (pre-term, low birthweight, sick or small), they—and their mothers—face unique challenges due to physiologic and systems level barriers often preventing human milk consumption. To address this, PATH has established the Mother-Baby Friendly Initiative Plus, a comprehensive approach for ensuring equitable access to lifesaving human milk for small and sick newborns, including specialized lactation support, nurturing care, maternal mental health, advocacy and public policy and locally appropriate human milk banks for safe provision of donor human milk when needed.

PATH is currently recruiting a Kenya-based Program Officer to support activities related to project management, implementation and research on specialized lactation and integrating a nutrition package of care into models of care for the small and sick newborn. The Program Officer will support the coordination and overall project management activities in Kenya, working closely with the global IMCHD team. As a member of the project team, you will support the planning, coordination and reporting across project activities related to MBFI+ implementation and research, materials development, team communication, and deliverables tracking.
